How to Make Your Phone Number Clickable
Enter the phone number as you normally would (for example: (202) 762-1401).
Highlight the phone number.
Click the Link button in the text editing toolbar.
In the Link URL field, enter it like this:
tel:12027621401
Replace 12027621401 with your own number.
👉 Important:
Do not include spaces or dashes in the link URL.
Include your country code (for the U.S., that’s
1).
So even if your text shows as:
1 (201) 387-5869
Your link should look like:
tel:12013875869
Where Should You Put Your Phone Number?
You can turn any button or text into a clickable link using this method, but we recommend placing your clickable phone number in highly visible sections like:
Announcement Bar — Great for “Call Now” messaging at the very top of your site.
CTA (Call to Action) Section — Perfect for service-based businesses that want direct calls.
Contact Form Description Area — Add it above your form for people who prefer to call instead of filling it out.
Navigation - Add the link to a navigation item in your top navigation menu. You can also include a phone icon.
How It Works
This method uses the standard tel: link format supported by browsers and mobile devices. When clicked on a phone, it opens the dialer automatically. On desktop, it may open calling apps like FaceTime or Skype if installed.
